The Secret of Monkey Island is a graphic adventure game created by Ron Gilbert while at Lucasfilm Games and published in 1990 for the Amiga and DOS. It was ported to other systems in 1991, 1992, and 1993. There are four more games in the Monkey Island series, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge, The Curse of Monkey Island, Escape From Monkey Island, and Tales of Monkey Island.
Taking you back in time to when piracy was a way of life in the Caribbean, you take on the role of a young aspiring pirate, Guybrush Threepwood. To achieve his dream, Guybrush has to impress the pirate leaders with his skills. Setting out to make a name for himself the intrepid sea dog makes the mistake of falling in love with a beautiful woman, for this woman was the obsession of a now-deceased pirate LeChuck during his life. This budding romance wakes up the spirit of old LeChuck, and he’s gunning for young Mr. Threepwood.
This pirate adventure is played using the SCUMM interface, meaning you select certain words and use them on items or people. There are inventory puzzles to solve and elements that can be combined. Speaking to the locals is also essential, and many of the conversation branches are pretty funny.
The Secret of Monkey Island is a significant title for Lucasfilm Games because it is their first to make it impossible to get stuck. There was also only one way to die in the game, which is to stay underwater for more than 10 minutes. Guy’s got a hell of a set of lungs!
Upon release, it gained many perfect scores and is often listed on many “Best of All-Time” lists. Mixing comedy and adventure, Monkey Island is a do not miss classic.

Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge is the point-and-click adventure sequel to The Secret of Monkey Island, created by Ron Gilbert, developed and published by LucasArts in 1991. Originally released for DOS it later made its way onto the Amiga and Mac.
It plays much like the first game, The Secret of Monkey Island, with use of verbal commands to interact with objects and the ability to choose between different response options when talking to characters. This was the first LucasArts game to make use of their music synchronization technology iMuse.

Playing as Guybrush Threepwood (his name made me giggle), you are searching for the treasure of “Big Whoop” and bragging to your buddies about beating the pirate LeChuck. You are then informed that Lechuck’s former first mate isn’t allowing anyone off the island, keeping you from pursuing your treasure. You go to confront the guy and decide to prove to him you killed his old boss by showing him the trophy beard you kept (ya psycho). Of course he robs you and promptly uses the beard to bring his old boss back from the dead. Newly resurrected LeChuck is hell bent on coming after you. This is a fun and amusing adventure game and has the uncommon feature of a choice in difficulty levels. Your adventure spans over a few different islands (with comical names) and gets you tangled up in crazy hijinks. Nothing old Guybrush can’t handle, right? This comical adventure classic is an essential for the die-hard adventure gamer, but can easily appeal to anyone else due to the easy to use interface and wonderful story.

The game won Best Adventure Game three times and landed at #2 in the Funniest Computer Game category. Monkey Island 2 is not only one of the best-selling adventure games ever, it's a true masterpiece and a milestone in the history of video games.
